'It's you!' Installation aus benutzten Brillenglaesern von Sunmee Lee, Korea

It’s you. Inside my work, I can find myself.

During the course of life, I think we tend to ask questions concerning who we think we are, what our idea of self perfection is, and what it is that forces us to think this way. When we think about these things, we try to think genuinely about what we are capable of, what kind of effort we need to make to become the people we want to be like. We keep in mind the reasons of why we want to exist like a certain person.

S.O.S - Art saves the world.

Indeed, when we don’t know ourselves, what can we save? So this is the start of the work: “It’s you.” This work combines the sight and therefore the ‘perspective’ of many people. We are going to find ourselves through these different perspectives This way, we can become connected with that other person who we see in the reflection. It is as though they are holding our hands, as though we are intertwined with them and feel like they are protecting us. In my piece each different lens reflects a different image, a different interpretation and thus each person can find a different meaning for themselves. Each lens in the piece is connected with a link. These links are a physical metaphor for how all people are connected together. This is the topic, the idea of the piece.

(inside my piece) In some places my image is clearly reflected but in others it is not.
Inside that image you can find your true self. At that instant I can’t recognize my own physical image, and I can’t recognize who I am. It’s like I’m existing as another person.

When I figure out exactly ‘who’ my inner self is, at that moment it’s as though I instantly become the person I wanted to be. In that moment, I can look at everything that surrounds me in my life. I think that the world will be saved by people who have found themselves in this way.
