Katherine Jost Here and Now
Just as certain Romantic traditions translated the familiar into personal psychosexual terrines to be explored at a fictional remove, I consciously nurture lucid expeditions into subjective histories, personal mythology and other influences from the observed world. Parts stand broken or fragmented, as I choose to provide a representation of experience that is fugitive and transitory.
Through intuitive processes of subjective association, emotional gaps are impregnated with personal fiction. The hybridization of fiction and memory often propose the possibility of a whole and complete story. Seductive in its proposal to make order of the mess of the images that make up compounded memory and fantasy, the work will ultimately expand and persist, inching further from reconciliation through consumption.
Katherine Jost earned her BFA in Painting and Drawing from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston '00, and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago '06. She has participated in several group shows in the US and Europe, and currently teaches for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Richard J. Daley College and College of DuPage.
