Die Ideen für meine Arbeit schöpfe ich aus meiner Fantasie, meinen Träumen, meiner Faszination für das Leben und jeden einzelnen Tag. Meine Erfahrungen im Alltag inspirieren mich, z. B. Muster, Veränderungen, Zufallsergebnisse, Schmerzen, Traurigkeit, Spaß und eine grundlegende Anmut. Spazierengehen, Radfahren, in den Himmel schauen, verlassene Orte finden, vergessene Erinnerungsstücke sind meine Juwelen. Selbst Abfall und Müllhalden lassen Bilder in meinem Kopf aufsteigen. Ich setze mich aber auch mit dem Werk zahlreicher Künstler auseinander; am meisten beeinflusst haben mich Henri Matisse, Akira Kurosawa (Filmemacher), Francis Bacon, Caravaggio, Kuniyoshi Utagawa (Japanische Drucke),  etc… Ich bin sozusagen besessen von Zeichen- und Mustersetzen. Auch in meinen Ölbildern findet sich die Zeichnung immer wieder."

Chinatsu Ikeda wurde in Osaka, Japan, geboren. Mit 19 reiste sie zum ersten Mal alleine nach Toronto, Kanada. 2003 siedelte sie in die USA über, lebte in Chicago, IL, und besuchte The school of the Art Institute of Chicago. Dort erlangte sie den BFA (2007)  und den MFA (2010) in Malerei und Zeichnung. Ihre Arbeiten waren Teil zahlreicher Gruppenaustellungen in Japan, den USA und Europa. Einzelausstellungen fanden zum Beispiel 2010 in der Nicole Villeneuve Gallery in Chicago, IL, und in 2016 in Berlin im Institut für alles mögliche statt. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Osaka, Japan.

On the occasion of this year's Gallery Weekend and simultaneously to the exhibition PAPERPOSITIONS at the Bikini-Haus Gallery UNO Projektraum Berlin presents new works on paper from Japanese artist Chinatsu Ikeda.

"The idea of my work comes from my imagination, my dreams, my fascinations for life and daily life. I am inspired by my own experiences in daily life such as patterns, changes, gifts of surprise, pains, sadness, fun, and general awesomeness. Just walking or riding a bike, looking at the sky, finding abandoned places, forgotten reminders are all my gems. Even garbage or landfills inspire me to have images in my head.  I also look at many artists’ work; my greatest influences are Henry Matisse, Akira Kurosawa (film maker), Francis Bacon, Caravaggio, Kuniyoshi Utagawa (Japanese prints),  etc…  I am kind of obsessed with mark making and patterns. I still love drawing in my oil paintings."

Chinatsu Ikeda was born in Osaka, Japan. When she turned 19, she went to Toronto, Canada for the first time traveling abroad.  Chinatsu Ikeda moved to the States by herself in 2003. She then lived in Chicago and went to The school of the Art Institute of Chicago for her BFA (2007)  and MFA (2010) in painting and drawing. Her works were shown in many group exhibitions all over Japan, the US and Europe. She held solo exhibitions, for example in Chicago, IL,  at Nicole Villeneuve Gallery in 2010 and in Berlin at the Institute für alles mögliche in 2016. She works and lives in Osaka, Japan.
